Since antiquity,Pelion was considered the mountain of the flowers and medicinal plants, related to the myth of the Centaur Cheiron, who taught Asclepius the arts of medicine, and to the  lifestyle and health of the inhabitants, since their medicinal use,  continues until the modern era. Moreover, today the trade in herbs is a means for subsistence for a large number of the the region’s inhabitants. These herbs have even been connected to popular culture with a large number of myths and traditions. According to Mr. Kyriakos Nisiotis,  a leading scholar of the flora of Pelion ,“Pelion has 3000 herbs, most of which are known from the old days and the Centaurea cyanus was used by the Centaur Cheiron for medicinal purposes.” Mr. Nisiotis also notes that ” the wise doctor, the Centaur Cheiron,  taught medicine to his supposed son, Apollo, and Coronis, queen of Trikki.” Hercules, Achilles and Jason also, learnt alongside him.  Come and discover important medicinal and culinary herbs of our precious tradition.

    Traveller Experience

    “Bountiful and Refreshing”

Amanita while not the easiest to find is well worth the drive.
We traveled with friends and stayed there 3 nights. Filaretos, the owner, gardner and cook is eager to please. Having exited the crop world, his dream to find peace and make people happy is a great accomplishment. If you are looking for an ultra-plush hotel with beaucoup amenities, this is not your place, but if you are looking for a quaint, personal break from life that is located close to beaches and more, yet private with a personally prepared breakfast that hours before Filaretos picks from his enormous and bountiful garden you found gold. He has huge deep red tomatoes, and cherry ones too, zucchini, grapes, apples, peaches and more growing all over. It does not get any fresher than that. He prepares everything from scratch including his own dried teas, preserves, breads and more, has created his own unique pesto and uses free range eggs. Each daily breakfast is different, not the same hum drum buffet and he can alter for special dietary needs. There is no tv or ar conditioning, but they have videos on loan and fans, but by the time we got back to our rooms we were ready to go to bed from all of the daily activities. I do not vacation to watch tv so it was not missed.

    “Greek hospitality at its best”

Amanita is a true labour of love. Filoretos’ passion and attention to detail are not only reflected in the wonderful breakfast but in every other aspect of this guesthouse. Rooms are comfy and immaculately kept. I loved the herb garden and the jasmine at the entrance that gives off an enticing whiff every time you walk past. Thanks to Filofetos and his in depth-knowledge of the area I discovered amazing beaches, phanastic walks and great tavernas in the area. What I enjoyed most, was the manitarivolta, the mushroom walk up in the mountains. The next day I was served the best mushroom omlette ever for breakfast.
